As
suggested by the author, the book will bear a warning that it "contains
raw language and slang references to anatomical parts of the body
some readers may find objectionable." The author defends
the innovative caption as "informative to a prospective reader and a
heads-up to any reader that may be offended by its gritty and sexy
contents."
The story
begins with the "secret war" in Laos, the CIA's drug trafficking to
finance "black ops" while there, and the hero's attempt to stop it.
The lone survivor of an attack by enemy soldiers on an
intelligence-gathering site, Frank Evans believes a preternatural
force possessed him. Marked for assassination because he knows
too much, the hero goes on a rampage to avenge the killing of his
wife, culminating with a cliffhanger ending.
Mr.
Simmons graduated from Chico High School in 1962, and shortly
thereafter enlisted in the Air Force, where he was assigned to Top
Secret military intelligence. A Vietnam veteran, he was
awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation with oak leaf clusters, and
the prestigious Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service
during intelligence operations in Southeast Asia in 1966.
After his
honorable discharge from military service, Mr. Simmons attended
Butte Jr. College and began a fifteen-year law enforcement career
that started with the Chico Police Department, and ended as a
Sergeant with the Sacramento county Sheriff's Department. A
Police officer rights activist, he was a seminal influence during
the unionization of the deputy sheriffs and often butted heads with
then-Sheriff Duane Lowe. During that tumultuous period of
time, he authored a controversial column in "The Deputy," the
official newspaper of the 700-member Sacramento County Deputy
Sheriffs Association. While in law enforcement, Mr. Simmons
also was a member of the Army National Guard in the Military Police.
He attended the FBI S.W.A.T. academy and helped form a National
Guard military police special response team.
A
graduate of CSU, Sacramento, with a B.A. in Criminal Justice, he
also obtained a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Golden
Gate University, San Francisco. He graduated from Lincoln
University Law School in Sacramento and opened his law practice in
1984. A court-certified expert in law enforcement procedures,
he also served five years as a pro tem judge in the greater
Sacramento area.
According
to the author's spokesperson, "Mr. Simmons' vast experience was
instrumental in turning out a first-rate action-packed novel."
Mr.
Simmons is hard at work on his second novel, Margarita Sirens.
